12 Los Angeles post-production companies handling picture and sound finishing in 2026, from studio lots to independent Hollywood houses

Introduction
Los Angeles has more full-service post capacity than any other city, spread across the studio lots in Burbank and Culver City, the facility cluster around Hollywood, and the commercial houses of the Westside. The 12 companies below take a project from dailies or offline through colour, VFX, sound and final delivery, and were chosen for the range of their services, recent credits and 2025 and 2026 activity.
Ownership shifted again over the past year. Light Iron’s staff bought the company’s assets from Panavision in May 2026 and relaunched it as an employee-owned house in Hollywood. Angus Wall folded a52, Elastic, Primary and Rock Paper Scissors into a single studio, MakeMake, at the end of 2025. Warner Bros. Post Production Creative Services, meanwhile, is extending its Burbank operation with a New York facility.
Every company here has an active Los Angeles facility in 2026. Specialist colourists, editorial boutiques, VFX studios and sound houses have their own lists, so this one concentrates on companies that offer several disciplines under one roof. It runs in no fixed order of merit.
The best post-production companies in Los Angeles
1. Picture Shop
Streamland Media · Hollywood · pictureshop.com
Picture Shop is the picture division of Streamland Media, whose global headquarters sits at the Sunset Gower Studios complex at 6040 Sunset Boulevard. After a 2023 expansion the six-floor building held five DI theatres, 13 colour bays, 22 online edit rooms and 55 offline rental rooms, with a smaller grading facility on Seward Street.
Its film and episodic credits include The Fabelmans, Women Talking and The Little Mermaid. The practical advantage is the group around it: Ghost VFX, Formosa Group for audio and Picture Head for advertising finishing are all Streamland companies, so a production can keep picture, effects and sound inside one company.
2. Company 3
Framestore · Los Angeles · company3.com
Stefan Sonnenfeld, Mike Pethel and Noel Castley-Wright founded Company 3 in Santa Monica in 1997. Framestore bought it in 2020 after Deluxe’s bankruptcy, and Los Angeles remains its main hub alongside New York, London, Toronto and Vancouver. It is best known for colour, but the LA office also handles VFX and finishing.
On the advertising side its 2026 work included a large share of Super Bowl LX spots, with credits for Apple, Ford, the NFL, DoorDash, Venmo and the WNBA, often through agencies such as 72andSunny and TBWA\Media Arts Lab. It added Therese Mayer as executive producer this year.
3. Harbor
Privately held · Hollywood · harborpicturecompany.com
Harbor runs picture and sound post in Los Angeles and Hollywood, with further studios in New York, London, Chicago and Atlanta. Its services cover dailies, colour, VFX, offline editorial, sound design, ADR and delivery, for features, episodic, music videos and commercials.
The company has been hiring through 2026: colourists Doug Delaney and Élodie Ichter joined in July, and Danny Duke became head of VFX for features and episodic in September. Recent credits include colour on The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Widow’s Bay, and Alex Gregory’s grade on Coldplay x Choose Love drew Ciclope and FilmLight Colour Awards nominations.
4. Light Iron
Employee-owned · Hollywood · lightiron.com
Light Iron was founded by Michael and Peter Cioni, sold to Panavision in 2015, and bought back by its own staff in May 2026. Around 15 employees now hold equity, led by supervising colourists Ian Vertovec and Corinne Bogdanowicz and general manager Megan Marquis. The Cionis keep a minority stake as advisors.
From its De Longpre Avenue facility it handles dailies, colour, finishing, mastering and archive, with remote services built around its own dailies and collaboration software. Recent credits include Freakier Friday, The Thursday Murder Club, Palm Royale and The Lowdown. The new ownership model offers stakes to clients as well as staff.
5. Chainsaw
SIM Group · Hollywood · simglobal.com
Chainsaw is the post arm of SIM, which also runs camera rental (Sim Digital) and workflow services (Bling Digital) from the same Hollywood headquarters on the former Eastman Kodak campus. SIM is backed by the Toronto investment firm Granite Partners.
The facility covers dailies, QC, editorial finishing, colour, VFX, sound mixing and deliverables, with a 4K projection theatre. Productions that already rent cameras from SIM can keep the whole chain, from camera prep to delivery, with one supplier.
6. Roundabout Entertainment
Independent · Burbank and Santa Monica · roundabout.com
Roundabout has been independent since 1992. Its Burbank building on South Lake Street and the Roundabout West facility on Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica together hold nine Dolby Atmos mix stages, 13 ADR stages and several DI theatres. It also has a facility in Atlanta.
Alongside colour, editorial, mixing and mastering, it offers localisation in more than 50 languages and an active restoration practice, including the 50th-anniversary restoration of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Original work includes Leo, Sound of Freedom and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
7. Warner Bros. Post Production Creative Services
Warner Bros. · Burbank · wbppcs.com
The Warner Bros. post operation sits on the Burbank lot at 4000 Warner Boulevard and serves outside productions as well as the studio’s own. It covers sound and picture post, with picture handled through Water Tower Color, plus game audio and production sound and video services.
It also runs De Lane Lea in London and has announced a New York facility. For productions shooting on the Warner lot, the short distance between stage, cutting room and mix stage is a practical benefit.
8. Sony Pictures Post Production Services
Sony Pictures · Culver City · sonypicturespost.com
Sony’s post facilities sit on the studio lot in Culver City and are open to outside clients. The sound side is among the largest in the city: 11 traditional mix stages including the 344-seat Cary Grant Theater, a dedicated IMAX stage, around 60 sound editorial rooms, three ADR studios, three Foley stages and the Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage.
Three smaller theatre-style rooms in Stage 6 handle mixing as well as remote VFX and colour review, reflecting how editorial and mixing now overlap. It suits features that want picture review and a large mix on the same lot.
9. FotoKem
Independent · Burbank · fotokem.com
FotoKem has served filmmakers from Burbank since 1963 and is one of the few houses in the city still processing 16mm, 35mm and 65/70mm film. Its fibre-linked Burbank and Hollywood sites add colour and DI, nextLAB mobile dailies, editorial suites from two to 36 rooms, sound and ADR, VFX, restoration and DCP mastering.
Recent and upcoming credits include The Odyssey, Project Hail Mary, The Mandalorian & Grogu and The Wrecking Crew. It is a natural choice for productions shooting on film, since processing, scanning and finishing stay in one place.
10. MakeMake
Independent · Los Angeles · makemake.com
MakeMake is Angus Wall’s studio, formed when a52 (VFX), Elastic (design and titles), Primary and Rock Paper Scissors (editorial) merged under one name at the end of 2025. Wall described the move in April 2026 as a shift away from separate departments toward teams that work across disciplines.
The combined company handles design, editing, VFX, colour, finishing, music and trailers for advertising, film and television. Clients can still book a single service, or use the full studio for a project.
11. Therapy Studios
Independent · Culver City · therapystudios.com
Therapy Studios was founded in 2006 by executive producer John Ramsay, VFX artist Wren Waters and editor Doobie White, and works from 1181 Teale Street in Culver City. It covers editing, audio, colour, finishing and design, with production services as well.
Its client list mixes brands (Duolingo, Jeep, Nike, Netflix, Starbucks) with music videos for artists including Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Laufey. It is a good size for commercial and music projects that want one team through to delivery.
12. Pixelogic
IMAGICA Group · Burbank and Culver City · pixelogicmedia.com
Pixelogic is part of Japan’s IMAGICA Group and has Los Angeles offices in Burbank and Culver City. Its work spans creative services, localisation, distribution and the technology that connects them, mainly for streamers and studios including Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Sony, Apple and Paramount.
Netflix named it Partner of the Year for EMEA in 2025, and it holds Apple Preferred Plus status. It fits the end of the chain: mastering, localisation and delivery for titles going out in many territories at once.
What to look for in a Los Angeles post-production company
Decide first how much you want under one roof. Studio-lot facilities and groups such as Streamland can take a feature from dailies to final mix inside one company, which simplifies scheduling and data handling. Smaller houses often give more senior attention, and many will partner with specialists for the parts they do not cover.
Location still matters in Los Angeles, mainly for supervised sessions. A director who has to sit in on a grade in Hollywood and a mix in Culver City in the same week will lose time in traffic. Ask which sessions can run remotely, and on what kind of calibrated setup.
Check the pipeline and the paperwork. Ask how dailies, proxies and conform are managed, which colour pipeline and deliverable specs the house works to, and whether it holds the security accreditations your distributor or streamer requires. Ask who the named colourist, online editor and mixer will be.
Finally, agree how review works before the first cut goes out. Post generates many versions of every reel, plus stems, LUTs, turnovers and delivery masters. Productions that keep one shared place for the latest files, notes and approvals spend less time chasing which version was signed off.
How Fabric helps post-production teams
Fabric gives a post team one workspace for its media, documents and notes, with AI search across all of it. Large files sit in Fabric’s cloud drive, which streams them on demand so they take no local disk space, and heavy video files open without a full download. There is more on this in how to edit video without filling your SSD and the guide to proxy workflows.
Audio and video transcription makes interviews, dailies and reference cuts searchable, with clickable timestamps. Search works by meaning across transcripts, documents and images, so an assistant editor can find a line of dialogue or a shot description without scrubbing through media. Colour search and similar search help with reference frames and look development, alongside notes such as what a LUT is.
For review, cuts and deliverables can be shared through a link that works without sign-up, and clients and producers can leave threaded comments on any file. Password protection and link analytics show which named recipient opened a link and for how long. Timestamped comments and drawing on video are coming soon to annotations. The review and approval page covers the current workflow.
On Team plans, self-writing docs keep a page for each client or production from meetings, Slack and the workspace, covering decisions, deliverables and open items.
Password protection and link analytics are included on Pro and Team plans, and self-writing docs on Team plans. See plans for teams.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best post-production company in Los Angeles?
It depends on the project. For a large feature that needs picture and sound in one place, the studio facilities at Warner Bros. and Sony, or Streamland’s Picture Shop, cover the most ground. For commercials, Company 3, Harbor, MakeMake and Therapy Studios do much of the city’s work.
What does a full-service post house do?
It handles most stages after the shoot: dailies, offline and online editorial, colour, VFX, sound editing and mixing, and mastering and delivery. Some, such as FotoKem, also process film, and others, such as Roundabout and Pixelogic, add localisation.
What happened to Light Iron?
Panavision owned Light Iron from 2015 until May 2026, when its staff bought the company’s assets and relaunched it as an employee-owned post house in Hollywood. The founders, Michael and Peter Cioni, keep a minority stake as advisors.
Can I book just one service from a full-service house?
Yes. Most houses on this list will take colour, editorial or a mix on its own, and MakeMake says it works either way. If you only need one discipline, the specialist lists may suit better, such as the best colour grading studios in Los Angeles.
Where are most post-production companies in Los Angeles?
The largest clusters are in Hollywood, around Sunset Boulevard and the former Kodak campus, in Burbank near the Warner Bros. lot, and in Culver City and Santa Monica on the Westside.
