Kanban
Track progress visually.
Drag and drop files, notes and links between stages.
See what's in progress, what's blocked, and what's done - all at a glance.
Organize visually.
Custom columns.
Create stages that match your process. To Do, In Progress, Review, Done, or anything else. Every team and every project works differently, and your columns should reflect that.
Drag and drop.
Move files, notes, and links between stages with a simple drag. Reorganize your workflow in seconds without any manual re-filing.
Same content, different view.
Switch between list view and kanban view anytime. It's the same folder, just visualized differently. Nothing moves, nothing breaks, and you can switch back whenever you want.
Your files become your cards.
Real content, not placeholders.
Every card on your board is an actual file, note, or link in your Fabric workspace. Click any card to open it immediately.
Any folder can be a board.
Project folders, research collections, content libraries. Switch any of them to kanban view and start organizing visually.
Works with everything you save.
PDFs, images, bookmarks, voice notes, documents. Anything in your folder becomes a card you can drag between columns.
A kanban board built around your actual files.
Most kanban tools ask you to create cards that describe your work. You write a title, maybe attach a file, and manage that card separately from the content it represents. In Fabric, kanban works differently. When you switch any folder to kanban view, the files, notes and documents, bookmarks, and media inside that folder become the cards. There is no duplication and no extra layer to maintain.
Built for creative and knowledge work.
This approach is particularly well suited to workflows where the deliverable is the content itself. A designer tracking assets through feedback rounds, a content creator managing an editorial calendar, or a marketer running campaign assets through approval stages can all use kanban without duplicating files into a separate project management tool. Your content planning, design projects, and client deliverables stay organized without the overhead of a standalone kanban app.
Works with everything else in Fabric.
Because kanban is a view rather than a separate system, it integrates naturally with the rest of your workspace. Combine it with tasks and reminders to add deadlines to your workflow. Shared folders retain their kanban layout for all collaborators, making it easy for teams to see what needs attention. And Fabric's smart search works across all views, so you can find files whether they sit in a kanban column or a traditional folder list.
One board per project, all in one workspace.
A freelancer can have separate kanban boards for each client. A research team can track papers and data sets through analysis stages. A startup can visualize their project documentation and brainstorming materials in a way that makes progress visible to the whole company. Each board is independent, with its own columns and structure, but everything lives within the same connected workspace where your AI assistant and sync features continue to work.

FAQ
Can any folder become a kanban board?
Yes. Any folder in Fabric can be switched to kanban view. It is a different way of looking at the same content, and you can switch back to list view at any time. You can learn more about organizing your workspace in the getting started guide.
What shows up as cards on the board?
Every file, note, and link inside that folder becomes a card. Fabric supports a wide range of file types, and all of them work as kanban cards.
Can I have multiple kanban boards?
Yes. Each folder can have its own kanban view with its own column structure. You can have as many boards as you have folders. The kanban guide covers tips for getting the most out of multiple boards.
Does moving a card between columns change where the file is stored?
No. The file stays in the same folder. Kanban columns are organizational stages, not separate storage locations. It is purely visual organization.
Can my team see and use the kanban view?
Yes. If you share a folder, everyone with access can see and interact with the kanban view. Changes are reflected for all collaborators in real time.
Can I customize the column names?
Yes. You can rename columns to match whatever workflow makes sense for your project. There is no fixed structure, so you can adapt it to any process.
Does kanban view work on mobile?
Kanban view works best on desktop and tablet where you have room to see and drag cards across columns. You can still access and view boards on mobile through the Fabric mobile app.
Can I filter which cards appear on the board?
Yes. You can use filters to narrow down what is visible by file type, date, tags, or other criteria. This is particularly useful for large folders with a lot of content.
Is kanban view available on all plans?
Kanban view is available across all Fabric plans, including the free tier. See pricing for a full feature comparison.
How is this different from tools like Trello or Asana?
In most kanban tools, cards are descriptions of work that you create and maintain separately. In Fabric, cards are your actual files, notes, and saved content. There is no duplication. You are organizing the real thing, not a summary of it. You can see a detailed comparison with other tools to understand the differences.
