Best Creative Agencies in Chicago (2026)

12 Chicago creative agencies doing standout work in 2026, from nine-person independents to a full-service firm founded in 1898

Introduction

Chicago has one of the strongest groups of independent creative agencies in the US, and the 12 below are the ones doing the most visible work in 2026. They range from Super Bowl regulars in River North to small West Loop and West Town shops that win on culture and speed.

The city’s network side shrank over the past year. Omnicom completed its acquisition of IPG at the end of 2025, and in December it announced more than 4,000 job cuts and the retirement of the FCB and DDB brands: FCB Chicago was absorbed into BBDO and DDB Chicago into TBWA. Independents picked up much of the attention. Highdive ranked third on Ad Age’s 2026 A-List, Highdive and Quality Meats both had spots in Super Bowl LX, and Someoddpilot won Gold as Ad Age’s Midwest Small Agency of the Year in July 2026.

Every agency here has an active Chicago office in 2026. Network offices such as Leo and BBDO Chicago appear on our advertising agencies page instead. The list runs in no fixed order of merit, since the right choice depends on your brief, budget and how you like to work.

What to look for in a Chicago creative agency

Start with ownership and size. Chicago’s independents range from nine-person shops to firms with several hundred staff and their own media departments. The larger ones, such as Cramer-Krasselt and BarkleyOKRP, can plan and buy media alongside the creative. Smaller agencies give more senior attention and usually move faster, though they may bring in production partners for larger shoots.

Check who will work on your account. Chicago saw a lot of senior movement after the Omnicom cuts of late 2025, and several independents, SCC among them, added senior leaders in 2026. Ask to meet the team that will do the work, and ask how long they have been at the agency.

Look at the client mix. Chicago agencies have deep experience with packaged food, restaurants, insurance and Midwest retail, which helps if your brand sells through grocery or regional stores. If your category is different, ask for work that shows the agency can learn quickly.

Finally, ask how the agency handles the daily process: where files live, how feedback is gathered and how approvals are tracked. Campaigns with dozens of social cuts, retail assets and video edits can lose weeks to version confusion across email and shared drives. A clear review process, and one place where clients can find the latest work, makes a long relationship easier.

How Fabric helps creative agency teams

Fabric gives an agency one workspace for its files, client feedback and team knowledge, with AI search across all of it. Most of the agencies above run several large accounts at once, and the agency setup is built around that pattern: one space per client, with briefs, assets, decks and call notes kept together.

Large production files sit in Fabric’s cloud drive, which streams files on demand so they take no local disk space. Editors and designers can open heavy files without waiting for a full download. Search works by meaning across documents, images and transcribed recordings, and colour search finds visual assets by shade. When a team needs a reference such as last year’s packaging shoot, similar search surfaces related work without a typed query.

For client delivery, any file or folder can be published as a web page and shared with password protection. Link analytics shows when each named recipient opened a link and how long they spent with it, which helps with pitch decks and review rounds. Clients can leave threaded comments through a shared link without creating an account. There is more on this in why agencies stop sending Google Drive links to clients.

On Team plans, self-writing docs can maintain a page for each client from meetings, Slack and the workspace itself, covering decisions, deliverables and open items. New account staff get the history without asking around.

Password protection and link analytics are included on Pro and Team plans, and self-writing docs on Team plans. See plans for teams.
